Montreux Marvels: Mountains and Miradors

Last year around this time, my partner and I embarked on an exciting adventure to the breathtaking Montreux, Switzerland, marking our first visit to this picturesque destination. With a five-day stay planned at the luxurious Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic, meticulous planning was essential, given Switzerland's reputation for being an expensive locale.

Behold the luxurious Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic depicted as below

Before our departure, we diligently crafted a detailed itinerary, carefully outlining our budget and selecting the activities we wished to indulge in during our time there. Our chosen experiences included:

1. A unique dining experience at Le Mirador Resort & Spa.

2. Exploring the Musee Cantonal Des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne.

3. Taking in the beauty of spring during a leisurely walk along Lake Geneva in Vevey.

4. A full-day excursion to Geneva to explore its attractions.

5. Indulging in culinary delights at The Fork - Alimentarium.

6. Visiting the historic Chillon Castle.

7. Embarking on a day trip from Montreux to Glacier 3000.

8. Enjoying fine dining experiences.

9. Exploring nearby cities at our leisure.

Given the emphasis on cost, my partner, an Excel enthusiast, meticulously mapped out every aspect of our Swiss escapade, from daily dining expenses to transportation costs. This thorough financial planning was crucial to mitigate any unforeseen expenses and ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey.

By diligently preparing and budgeting for our trip, we were able to navigate Switzerland's expenses with confidence, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and culture of Montreux without financial worries.

Alright, let's shift the focus away from costs for now. By this point, you probably have a good sense of Switzerland's reputation for being pricey.

Before we dive into our experience in Switzerland, let first talk about different options in getting around Switzerland.

Transportation :

Montreux boasts a fantastic transportation network that makes getting around the town and exploring the surrounding region a breeze. Whether you're looking to zip around town efficiently or embark on a scenic journey, Montreux has you covered. Here's a rundown of the different options:

Trains: The main mode of transportation in Switzerland is trains, and Montreux is no exception. The town has its own train station that offers connections to Lausanne, Geneva, and other major cities. You can also use the trains to reach nearby villages and resorts, such as Gstaad and Zermatt.

GoldenPass Line: One of the most scenic train journeys in the world, the GoldenPass Line connects Montreux to Gstaad and Zweisimmen. The panoramic windows of the trains offer stunning views of the Swiss Alps, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Funiculars:  For a more unique experience, hop on one of Montreux's funiculars. These charming cable cars climb up the steep hillsides, offering breathtaking views of the town and lake Geneva.  The most popular funicular is the one that takes you up to Glion, a small village with stunning views of the surrounding area.

Buses: Buses are a great way to get around Montreux and the surrounding area. The bus network is efficient and affordable, and you can use it to reach most of the major attractions.  The main VMCV bus line number 201 circulates every 10 minutes along the lake, between Vevey and Villeneuve, passing through Montreux.

Part 1 of Montreux Switzerland Experience

Let's delve into our experiences while in Switzerland as we checked off the pre-planned activities.

A unique dining experience at Le Mirador Resort & Spa.

We left our hotel and got on a bus to the nearest and only cable car station to get the Le Mirador Resort & Spa.

We took the funicular from vevey, a charming cable car ascending towards  Le Mont-Pèlerin. Inside, however, it was a different story. Plush velvet seats and panoramic windows offered a stunning vista of snow-capped peaks that bled into a cerulean sea far below.

The funicular delivered you directly to the doorstep of Le Mont-Pèlerin station, surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. A short stroll from the station led you to Le Mirador Resort & Spa.

The attentive staff, seemingly anticipating your arrival, greeted you with genuine smiles and a gracious welcome. The resort itself was a marvel – offering awe-inspiring panoramic views and meticulously tended gardens adorned with vibrant blossoms.

The highlight, however, was still ahead. A delightful exploration led to a secluded spot – the resort's private station for the cable car! As you can see below.

The mountains glimmered in the afternoon sun, and the vast expanse of the sea spread out like a textured, cerulean canvas. It was a scene reminiscent of a fairytale, setting the perfect stage for the surprise you had eagerly anticipated.

This unexpected adventure, perched high above the world in a private stationed cable car, made for an unforgettable and undeniably romantic experience. It was, without a doubt, the most indelible memory of the entire trip, a perfect blend of luxury, breathtaking views, and playful togetherness, all orchestrated by The Kempinski's impeccable service.

As mentioned before, the Funicular's ultimate destination is Le Mont-Pèlerin and below are some of the picturesque aspects of the area:

In the sequel to our Swiss adventure, we'll embark on two exciting escapades. First, we'll explore the rich artistry at the Musee Cantonal Des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne. Then, we'll bask in the blossoming splendour of spring during a leisurely walk along the shores of Lake Geneva in Vevey. Get ready for another chapter of unforgettable experiences!
